Biology in Physics

Bogdanov has written about biological processes from the viewpoint of a physicist. The ten chapters may be read in any order to obtain an intelligent introduction or review for any of the topics, which deal with the electrical nature of life, the functioning of muscles, respiration, circulation, and so on... The presentations are clear, light-hearted, even funny on occasion -- a great and unusual accomplishment for a science text that does not talk down to its readers. The book is well illustrated and clearly written, although the text occasionally becomes a bit convoluted. This may be the result of its translation from Russian. The author provided a very thorough and up-to-date set of references for skeptics as well as for those who wish to dig deeper.

Exciting, Interesting, & Full of Battles

This is a review dictated to me by my 10 year old son after he read this book:
This was about a boy who left his home in England because his uncle had given him money to go to India and become a rich merchant when the French and English were battling over who would rule India. Instead of becoming a rich merchant, the boy became a solider in the English army. He fought so well that he rose to officer rank. When he returned home, he was a colonial and had earned almost 100,000 pounds for winning battles. I liked that there was an action-packed war with plenty of battles in this book. I learned that some people can be very faithful if you do something kind for them and that even a cook can fight well. I think boys who like to read books with plenty of battles would especially enjoy this book.

Cant a couple Talk?

I did not like this book. Tre was so angry at Leigh. He would treat her poorly that she was afraid to be in the same room with him. Tre felt his heart was being ripped out everything he saw Leigh. It took them over ten years to get this right. I really dont like a book with the majority of it is filled with questions never being asked and a lot of assumtions. Then as the other reviewer mention was the ending. There was no ending. Once everything was reveled and it looked like they could finially be together Leigh leaves Tre for serveral months. She didnt call him, she didnt return his calls nothing. Again the lack of communication. Then she just comes back with the carefee additude and the writer was giving you the impression that Leigh my be pregnant but nothing was mentioned. Did not like this one at all.

Go read her other book - Addicted to you. She wrote this under the name of Bethany Kane.

One of my favorite authors has again given me a good read. Long lost loves reunite but, guilt keeps her from being happy until she discovers the truth. But will he accept her a third time? I highly recommend this novel as the twists, turns and steamy love scenes will peak all your interests. This is a page turner. Would love to see a sequel......Come on Beth and give us another!

This was a great book. I loved the ways she flashed back from one time to another. The only thing I wish is that it would have been a little longer. Maybe there will be a part 2 somewhere down the road.

Outstanding!

This book is extremely well produced. The combination of thoughtful examples, excellent real-world datasets, good exercise problems with hints to help you get started and guidance for using the most common software packages (including open-source R) make this a very thorough, self-contained introduction to linear regression. There is a strong emphasis on understanding, application and interpretation. The writing style is crystal clear. It is an ideal tool for independent learning - just follow along with the text using the datasets available from the website & your favorite statistical analysis software. This is the best elementary, practical introduction to linear regression that I have come across, well worth the investment!

excellent textbook

Applied Regression Modeling by Iain Pardoe is a very well written textbook about basic linear regression analysis. It is excellent for self study. The language is plain and simple. The approach is entertaining. And the math is easy to understand. You almost feel like you are in the classroom listening to a live lecture. The accompanying website is very informative. Especially the 5 min video clips and computer help are very useful. I recommend this book for anyone interested in learning the basics of regression. It is an excellent practical guide for those at beginner and intermediate level.
